BIOSKETCH
Mr Thabiso Tlaila obtained his B-Pharm degree at University of Limpopo and currently holds a Masters degree in Pharmacology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). His innovative approach to drug discovery led him to research novel compounds with a potential to treat co-morbid tuberculosis and diabetes. Thabiso’s Masters research was on the spot-light when he won first prize during a UKZN College of Health Sciences Symposium.Thabiso also has an interest in translating university research into commercially viable innovations. He has obtained various grants from the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), an agency of the Department of Science and Technology. In one project, Thabiso developed and piloted an mHealth tool with embedded clinical algorithms to assist community health workers in rural areas in identifying danger signs and referring patients to primary health care clinics for further care.Mr Tlaila is currently a developmental lecturer at UKZN where he administers pharmacology lectures to dental therapy, oral hygiene, optometry and pharmacy students. He also supervises final year B-Pharm research projects.
