BIOSKETCH
Dr Clement Agoni is a researcher in the School of Health Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where he was recently awarded a prestigious Y2 rating by the National Research Foundation (NRF). He also serves as a Research Associate with the National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (NITheCS) in South Africa. He is currently a project officer in the Research for Society Directorate at Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland in Ireland. Dr. Agoni’s research expertise lies in computational pharmacology and structural bioinformatics. He applies molecular modeling, AI-driven simulations, and high-performance computing to deepen understanding of protein–ligand interactions and accelerate drug discovery for emerging infectious diseases, cancer therapeutics, and bioactive peptides. His career bridges pharmaceutical sciences, industry collaborations, and science policy across Ghana, South Africa, and Ireland. Notable prior roles include a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Career-Fit Plus Fellowship at the School of Medicine, University College Dublin, Ireland; a position as data scientist at the biotechnology firm NURITAS in Dublin, Ireland; and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa. Dr. Agoni is an alumnus of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community (Durban and Dublin Hubs), the Climate Reality Leadership program, the Food for Health Ireland Consortium, and the COST Action CA21160 on Protein Function Annotation. He has authored or co-authored over 85 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, amassing more than 1,270 citations. In addition, he reviews for and guest-edits several reputable journals in his fields and has mentored students across South Africa and Ireland.
